Leona Lewis On Adoption & Why She Stays Out Of Tabloids

She’s just 23 and still promoting her heavily successful debut album, “Spirit,” but Leona Lewis is already thinking about family.

The chart-topping singer said one reason she is hoping to expand her family eventually through adoption is because of the jobs her parents held.

“My mum was a social worker and my dad was a youth offender officer, so I know that there are a lot of kids out there that need to be fostered and adopted,” she said.

And a visit to South Africa earlier this year was also highly influential on Leona, who has been together with her boyfriend, Lou Al-Chama, since they were youngsters.

“When I was in Africa I wanted to take home all the kids. They were so cute. All of them had been orphaned because of HIV and it was heart-rending,” she said. “There are so many who need help – both here and abroad – you just don’t know where to start.”

In another interview, to promote her song “Forgive Me,” which is being released in the UK this week, Leona said one reason she is not a regular tabloid fixture like her UK peers, is because she prefers moving her feet to necking a few beers.

“I’m not the kind of person who gets drunk and falls out of nightclubs,” she told the UK’s Daily Star. “I don’t drink – it tastes like hairspray to me… I just dance, dance, dance. Everyone is always like: ‘Don’t you need a few drinks to dance?’ I go to clubs to have a good time and dance, not to sit there and pose.”
