If you watched the 58th Annual NBA All-Star game Sunday night you may have noticed one thing missing- no 76ers players were on the court.
With Allen Iverson gone, Philadelphia has been without an All-Star caliber player for the last three seasons, but it’s OK Philly, one of our own happened to soothe our pain with a soulful halftime performance.
University of Penn graduate John Legend may not have a jumper, dunk or three point shot in his arsenal, but the singer, songwriter and pianist teamed up with Juanes and a gospel choir performing “If You’re Out There” to highlight the halftime show honoring the NBA Cares initiative.
As smooth as Legend was, Phoenix hometown hero Sun Shaquille O’Neal tried to steal the show on the court with his co-MVP honors with Lower Merion Native Kobe Bryant and during the pregame festivities with America’s Best Dance Crew season one winner, the Jabbawockeez dancers.
Wearing a white mask and a cape, Shaq, “The Big Breakdown”, flossed an array of moves not seen since his since his days in the paint with the Orlando Magic (who were represented by St. Joseph grad Jameer Nelson.)
The colorful performances that regained the fun and excitement the NBA All-Star weekend hadn’t been seen since former Cowboy Adam “Pacman” Jones "rained" out the 2007 festivities with his strip club shootout.
