From Construction Worker to GOP Rapper

Influences range from Bill O'Reilly to the Beastie Boys

At one time, Calvin Tanella was just a construction worker in New Jersey. But then one day, Tanella heard conservative radio host Michael Savage ranting about "Islamofascism" and illegal immigration.

Hearing his calling, Tanella picked up the mic and hasn't looked back since.  Known in conservative circles as "the Republican Rapper," Hi-Caliber raps sincerely about liberals taking his guns, a socialist in the White House, Nancy Pelosi, border fences and the liberal media. His album, "Mr. Conservative," goes for $10 on his MySpace page, or $5 for members of the armed forces. He'll ship an album to bases overseas for no charge.

Hi Caliber Spits Rhymes About Obama

The Daily Beast found him out at the 2009 Conservative Political Action Conference where they got him to rap in an exclusive video. As Hi-Caliber, Tanella's not the worst rapper by any means. I'm sure he'll find his niche in the right-wing blogosphere, rapping at Rush Limbaugh's and Bill O'Reilly's birthday parties for years to come.

Impose Mag thinks he's onto a trend. They write, "This is obviously just the beginning of Republican rap. Hi-Caliber is far too talented and successful to remain an isolated phenomenon, and the scores of Republican rappers likely coming out of the woodwork will need names."

To hear the man for yourself, check out his MySpace page. I recommend kicking the party off with his signature track, Mr. Conservative, followed by the Obama-critique Obamanation.
