Céline Dion: I Was Expecting Triplets

One named for a world leader, the other for a producer

Céline Dion was originally expecting triplets.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer revealed her loss in an interview with Quebec TV, taped 10 days before she gave birth to twins Nelson and Eddie Saturday at a West Palm Beach, Fla. hospital.

Dion, whose last pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, said the heart of one of her fetuses stopped beating shortly after learning she was pregnant again -- with triplets.

"He chose to let go to give space to his brothers to grow," Dion said, according to Us, which posted excerpts of her interview on Friday.

The singer’s rep separately confirmed the loss of the unborn child to E! News on Friday.

Also Friday, Dion and hubby/manager René Angelil revealed the names of their fraternal twins: Nelson was named for South African anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, who the couple once met. Eddie was named for Eddie Mornay, the producer of Dion's first five albums.

"Céline and René want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men," Dion's rep told People.

The singer left the hospital with her twins in tow on Wednesday evening.

"Everyone's doing great. They are happy to be home," her rep told People on Thursday.
