Worth the Trip: Kensington Derby Brings Human-Powered Vehicle Floats

Come out to the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Festival on Saturday, May 16. .

The event, formerly known as the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival and Kensington Kinetic Derby, is bringing a combination of creativity and innovation to Philly.

The eccentric tournament awards people with the most creative human-powered vehicles, costumes and float themes. The competition will distribute six awards including, Best Art, Best Costume, Best Engineering, People’s Choice, Best Breakdown and the Judge’s Choice Award.

The three-mile-long festival passes through Philadelphia’s Kensington and Fishtown neighborhoods and ends in a mud pit.

Visitors will have the chance to walk around and preview more than 200 artists from around the area, vendors and enjoy delicious food truck fare.

Proceeds from the Kinetic Sculpture Derby helps raise money for community projects in the neighborhood.

Registration costs $10 per person.
