Warren Beatty's Decade-Long Absence Ending With Howard Hughes Film

Warren Beatty last appeared on film in 2001 and hasn't written or directed since 1998, but the Hollywood legend has finally found a project interesting enough to get himself back in front of and behind the camera.

Beatty has been meeting with the likes of Andrew Garfield, Alec Baldwin, Shia La Beouf, Jack Nicholson, Evan Rachel Wood and Rooney Mara for a new film he wants to make about Howard Hughes, reported Deadline. The story also claims Beatty's met wth Annette Bening, but considering they're married, we'll just take it on faith that she'd star in any movie he was making.

Beatty plans to take the lead role of Hughes, in a film that would focus on an affair the innovative aviator had late in life with a much younger woman.

We vaguely remember enjoying Beatty's last film, "Bulworth," a political satire about a senator suffering from depression who puts out a hit on himself and begins communicating with the press in public in the parlance of rap music. But we have a feeling it probably wouldn't hold up to a second viewing.

But the guy's got 14 Oscar nominations to his credit, so he's worth two hours of our time.
