“Machete” One Step Closer to Spurting Blood into a Theater Near You

We fell in love "Machete" when it was a fantastic fake trailer (complete with hilarious NSFW language) for "Grindhouse."

Now  American audiences are a step closer to seeing Robert Rodriguez's "Machete" after Twentieth Century Fox came out on top of a bidding war for North American rights to the film, Variety.com reports.

Rodriguez caused a stir with the concept even when it went viral on YouTube. The movie stars Danny Trejo as a Mexican ex-Federale who is double-crossed in a plot to kill a crooked politician. But like they say in the trailer. "If you hire Machete to kill the bad guy, make sure you're not the bad guy."

Sure, there is most every possible killing method invoked even in the short trailer --  from knives to machine guns attached to the front of motorcycles flying through flames. But a fantastic cast including Robert De Niro as the crooked politician, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson and Lindsay Lohan may separate this film from internet-friendly schlock like "Snakes on a Plane."

But the highlight of the show may be a double-shot-gun toting priest in the form of Cheech Marin.

The film was shot last fall in Austin, Texas and is still in post-production. No release date has been set.
