Here's That “Rango” Trailer We Were Talking About

Remember the other day when we shared the poster for Johnny Depp's "Rango" and said the trailer was forthcoming? Well here it is in all its bizarre desert glory.

The trailer evokes a "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" feel, even making a direct nod to Depp's dearly departed friend, Hunter S. Thompson, as the hero at the center of the story is chased by a bird of prey, walks into a foreboding saloon and encounters both a giant rattlesnake and wind-up fish.

As annoyed as we've been by the drip, drip, drip of  of publicity materials, we gotta admit the trailer, which debuted on Empire today, looks a bit awesome.

The film, directed by Gore Verbinski ("Pirates of the Caribbean 1, 2 & 3") is said to be about a "lizard going through an identity crisis" and features the voices of Abigail Breslin, Bill Nighy, Stephen Root, Ray Winstone, Harry Dean Stanton and Alfred Molina. It's scheduled for release in March 2011.
