Squirrel Halts Play…Again

An odd moment in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium left some people feeling a bit "squirrely."

In the bottom of the fifth inning, a rambunctious squirrel darted across home plate as Roy Oswalt was delivering a pitch to the Cards' Skip Schumaker. Oswalt tried to use the interruption to get the call -- it was a ball -- thrown out, as did manager Charlie Manuel (mind you, the Phils were losing 3-2 at the time). The ump, however, wouldn't budge.

Oddly enough, this wasn't the first time in this series that a squirrel interrupted play.

The night before, a squirrel made its way onto left field, stopping the game for several minutes.

The squirrel didn't stop the Phils from getting the W.

Wish we could say the same for Wednesday's furry friend. But, who knows? Maybe the squirrel is a big Cards fan that is trying to sabotage the Phillies.

Manuel had this to say of Wednesday night's incident:

"There's not too much I can do about a squirrel running across the field. Of course, being from the South, and being a squirrel hunter, if I had a gun there, I might have done something."
