LONDON - JANUARY 04: A man walks to work in freezing conditions on January 4, 2010 in London, England. Much of the UK is in the grip of freezing weather with snow and ice disrupting transport across the country as people return to work after the Christmas break. The MET office confirmed that the Christmas period has been the coldest for 25 years with temperatures as low as -17C being recorded in Scotland. (Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)

According to Randy J. Miller (twitter), Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is engaged to long time girlfriend and Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader Krystle Campbell, who has oft been photographed at the slugger’s side.

Good for him, but I’m pretty disappointed that he didn’t do it in between innings last night. I mean, what says "I love you" more than a proposal in front of 40,000 people on Hatfield Dollar Dog Night? Shame, that.

We here at Philthy Stuff wish to congratulate Ryan and Krystle and hope they live a very happy life together. But I swear, if you mess with his swing...

For serious, it’s officially a pretty killer week for Howard, who, along with the pending nuptials, is off to a blistering start in 2011 with a .524 average, eight RBIs and a pair of homers through the season’s first five games.

No word on the size of the ring or if Howard did indeed spend two month’s salary on it, but it is quite the coincidence that Howard got engaged just days after a certain other piece of jewelry has disappeared. No word on whether or not the two are related.
