Phillies Reach 2-Year Deal With Kendrick

The Phillies announced Sunday that right-handed pitcher Kyle Kendrick had agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million deal with the club. The contract covers the 2012 and 2013 seasons and includes performance and awards bonuses.

Kendrick made a career-high 34 appearances and 15 starts for the Phillies in 2011, posting a 8-6 record with a career-low 3.22 ERA. He also reached a career-low in WHIP (Walks and Hits allowed per Inning Pitched), with 1.221. Kendrick struck out 59 batters in 114.2 innings pitched for a strikeout per nine innings ratio of 4.6.

Kendrick was eligible for salary arbitration after the 2011 season, but last month the Phillies and Kendrick agreed to a one-year contract for 2012, this avoiding that process.

2012 will be Kendrick's fifth season with the club, which drafted him in 2003. He has a career record of 43-30 with an ERA of 4.41.
