After seeing the heartbreaking story of a dog that was dragged behind a pickup truck, an 11-year-old Burlington County girl wrote a song dedicated to abused animals. Maria Ewan of Marlton sent these lyrics to the Cumberland County SPCA:

"Why do you do this to me?
Why do you hurt me?
I have done nothing to wrong you.
Don't abandon me; don't chain me up, don't abuse me; all I want is love.
What did I do to you that made you angry?
What did I do to you that made you angry?
And when you leave me just anywhere, I end up alone and scared!
But I know, I know I will make it through.
I will survive and recover without you!"
