District 12 of “The Hunger Games” Up for Sale

If you're a fan of the cult book series turned hit movie "The Hunger Games" (these days, who isn't?) forget the trivial memorabilia because the ultimate "Hunger Games" souvenir just became available. According to the Associated Press, the North Carolina property that served as the set for the coal-mining District 12 is now up for grabs for a cool $1.4 million.

Located about 70 miles from Asheville, North Carolina, District 12 aka Henry River Mill Village (in real non-"Hunger Games" life) has attracted a bevy of fans looking to catch a glimpse of the buildings that served as Katniss' home or Peeta's family's bakery since the movie's release.

The only problem with these hungry for "Hunger Games" fans, reports the AP, is that the village is all but abandoned (the mill burned down in 1977) and the entire 72-acre property is private land. The private property signs have apparently not deterred camera-toting fans. In fact, the local sheriff's department is coordinating with private security guards to keep stargazers at bay.

While you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who hasn't read Suzanne Collins' hit book series, there's one person who still hasn't ordered his copy: Wade Shepherd , the 83-year-old owner of the Henry River Mill Village property. We think that with all the extra foot traffic on his land, somebody should send Shepherd a copy of the book. After all, with two more sequels yet to be released, the popularity of this tiny village will not subside anytime soon.
