Former Eagles Cheerleader Falls In Love With Eddie Munster

We interrupt Eagles training camp to bring you this earth-shattering bit of news. Seems a former Eagles cheerleader has gone and hitched herself to a Hollywood legend. Prepare yourself for an Eagle/Munster love story. From the AP:

Donna McCall was a 10-year-old with a crush on Butch Patrick, who played boy werewolf Eddie Munster in the mid-`60s sitcom "The Munsters."

And who wouldn’t have a crush on Butch Patrick, the Were-Bieber of his generation? Hard to resist any young boy with a forehead full of lustrous, lupine hair.

In her letter, she asked Patrick how tall he was because girls at the time were making gum wrapper chains long enough to match the height of their boyfriends. To her delight, the young actor responded and included his height — 5 feet, 4 inches.

And now you know what people did before the advent of cable television and the Internet. They made chains out of gum wrappers. This is also a handy technique to deploy should you ever be required to escape from the sixth floor of an asylum of some kind.

An online article about a man who holds the world record for making a 12-mile-long gum wrapper chain triggered McCall's memory of her preteen idol. She found an e-mail address for Patrick, and a correspondence began.

This is just like that one Nicholas Sparks novel I started reading.

McCall, now 55 and living 30 miles outside Philadelphia in West Chester, sent along a picture from her (Eagles) cheerleading days, said Patrick, 57, who never married but has a 23-year-old son in Missouri. She also sent photos of herself doing activities on her "bucket list," from scuba diving and to riding a trapeze to race-car driving, he said.

Also on that Bucket List? MARRYING EDDIE MUNSTER.

"That intrigued me a lot," Patrick said.

I bet. You Eagles fans already know that the Eagles have employed some of the more unreasonably attractive cheerleaders in NFL history. I don’t think it would shock anyone to know that Eddie Munster would take a keen interest in one of them, or their gum wrapper chains.

"She's single, she's beautiful, she's in the nicest part of the country and she likes to do adventurous things. I figured I had to meet this woman."

And really, you’re Butch Patrick. What else do you have to do? And now, prepare yourself for the touching, “Sleepless in Seattle” meet cute!

The pair agreed to meet May 8 at a horror convention outside Pittsburgh called DraculaCon.

At the luxurious Motel 6!

You could say it was love at first bite.

Well, I don’t get that at al… Oh wait! Now I do!

Within weeks, Patrick, who has homes in Los Angeles and Florida, moved to Pennsylvania to be with McCall.

Wait, Butch Patrick has TWO houses? I thought child stars in the 60’s were only paid in canned Vienna sausages. How can he afford such luxury?

He's working this Halloween season with a company called 13 Haunts as its "spokesperson and in-house celebrity Munster" for appearances at its 13 haunted houses in the Philadelphia area.

Ah, that explains it. Few careers are more lucrative than “in-house celebrity Munster”.

The couple say they are not engaged, contrary to other reports.

"We've only known each other for three months, four months, so it would be a little crazy to be jumping into that," McCall said.

So true. It would be a little crazy. Not unlike tracking down a child star decades after you made a custom gum wrapper measuring tape for him.

Anyway, kidding aside, this is rather heartwarming tale of two people finding each other late in life. My hope is that these two get married, and that they do so during halftime of a game at the Linc. Tell me that wouldn’t melt the cold hearts of the Philly faithful. Pass me my werewolf hanky.
