Q&A: “Gossip Girl’s” Kelly Rutherford Talks Twitter and Her New Tech-y Project

Stephan Wurth

Kelly Rutherford of "Gossip Girl"

It seems as if Kelly Rutherford can do it all, juggling a role on the hit show "Gossip Girl," being a great mom, supporting several philanthropic projects, and now working on her new website KellyRutherford.com. We chatted with Kelly about her many projects, dictator tendencies and her guiltiest pleasures.

You are a woman who is so incredibly busy with “Gossip Girl, your charitable work, parenting, and now you’ve started a website—what prompted you to take on another project?
I think women are so dynamic, and especially in your forties, you have so much to give back. KellyRutherford.com is my way of sharing what I love and staying inspired.

You are very active on Twitter and now you have this site. What do you want your readers to take away from your web presence?
From the website, a sense of style and fresh ideas. As for Twitter, this has definitely been a learning curve for me, but I’m having a lot of fun connecting with people. It’s a great way to share your everyday in a fun way.

Any Twitter mishaps?
I’m still learning to retweet!

What is something about you that would surprise our viewers and readers?
That I’m a lot more quirky than the characters I play.

What is the most fun part of working on “Gossip Girl?” Any funny stories from the set?

I love the people I work with and everyone has such a great sense of humor. The outtakes are hilarious.

If you could be a benevolent dictator for a day, what is the first thing you would change in the world?
There would be more women involved politically, that’s for sure.

I weren’t an actor, I would be a ________.
Journalist

Item I wish I had invented:

The Chair

Favorite guilty pleasure:

Massages

You are a Francophile in the chicest ways possible. What is your favorite French food and favorite French restaurant? What’s the French “je ne sais quois” all about?
The steak frites at Amaranth is my favorite. My favorite French restaurant is L’Entrecote. And, I think je ne sais quois is about feminine individuality.
