StorySlam: Unload Your Emotional Baggage

Competitors battle to tell the best true tale at this themed event

Do you know how to spin a riveting story or just like listening to other people tell one? Consider checking out First Person Arts' StorySlam, a live storytelling competition where real people tell real stories and the audience votes for the best.

The themed monthly event takes place the fourth Tuesday of every month at Queen Village cabaret L'Etage and the next one is tonight, May 26 at 7:30 p.m.. Don't forget to pack (or unpack) your bags - the theme for this StorySlam is "luggage."

If you want to participate, just pay the $8 cover for the show and leave your name at the sign-in table when you enter. Ten names are chosen and each storyteller is given just five minutes to tell their tale - you can prepare mentally in advance, but no reading from a script or notes. After all ten stories are told, the audience votes and the winner gets to battle in the Grand Slam at the First Person Festival in November for the glorious title of Philadelphia's Best Storyteller.

To make those true tales go down a little easier, there are $4 well drinks all night, too.
