When you go to the Chicago Auto Show over the weekend or next week, you've got to see what U.S. automakers have been doing in their spare time.

New items being offered by General Motors at this year's show include the Bumblebee Camero and it'll appear on the big screen in the upcoming sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

But, it's way cooler to see the Autobot in person -- hear the clank and whir, see the shiny surface. Visitors to the Chicago Auto Show will be the first to get up front and personal with these steely creatures.

Teamsters and Hollywood technicians are working to put the Autobot together in time for the show's opening.

In the meantime, GM announced this week that it would reduce its global salaried staff to about 63,000 from its current level of 73,000.

About 3,400 cuts will be made in the US.
