We all know there comes a time when temptation is staring you right in the face. From Facebook, to MySpace, BBM’ing (Blackberry Messaging) and texting, cheating is practically right at your fingertips! Whether you know you’ve been duped or not, you can’t help but wonder if monogamy is actually in our D-N-A. Maybe there’s a dominant gene within some of us that simply won’t allow you to fully commit and be faithful. Could it be that those X/Y chromosomes do more than determine just our sex and actually reveal who’s more prone to cheat? On the other hand, perhaps science has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Steph:

As much as some would like to blame it on genetics, monogamy is not a recessive gene. Cheating is not some incurable virus spread from generation to generation. There are people out there who truly believe in the sanctification of committed relationships.

Now don’t get it twisted, I’m not on some high horse saying that it’s the easiest thing in the world. But let’s be real, we all have choices. Fidelity is something we choose to do. We all take a gamble by putting our heart on the line.  However, one thing’s for sure, you can’t use an unfaithful chromosome as an excuse for any type of betrayal.

Forget all the hype about the grass being greener on the other side. If you’ve found your love prototype then stop dipping from the gene pool already!

Matt:

When it comes to cheating, you can easily break it down:
Men cheat because there is an opportunity—they are only as good as their options. Women simply try to fill a void in their lives—neglect.

So now, with technology coming into play, it still doesn't mean we are all typing away to our next hook-up. Most have caught the love bug early on and don't need to look anywhere else. Maybe it's the fear of the consequences of getting caught that keeps them in check. Damn, those key strokes and spy-ware!

But for the ones where the monogamy gene lies dormant, it's just a matter of time before they get exposed to an outbreak, finally meeting their patient zero and spend the rest of their lives in quarantine. At this point, you'll realize no one is immune and that LOVE can be contagious.
