Hope! Change! Sanjaya!

We were worried the world was going down the toilet, but then we heard about Sanjaya Malakar's debut album. We feel a whole lot better now.

Do you miss those innocent days when Wall Street was ticking along just fine, mortgages were $11.95 and an entire nation (or at least its tween girls) was under the spell of an 89-lb. kid with a ponyhawk, no voice, and the general countenance of a meerkat? OMG us too!

So when we heard that Sanjaya Malakar was fixing for a January 20 release of his debut EP Dancing to the Music in My Head (ain't that the truth), we thought, wow -- that feels about a million years ago, back when the world was young.

But hope springs eternal in Malakar country, and as we know from the last election, everybody loves an underdog. So what if it's been almost three years since Sanjaya blipped dully on the famedar? If the songs go down as smooth as microwaved Velveeta? If the cover looks like a dreamcatcher threw up on itself? Yes he can!
