If you’re thinking of going to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Sundays and expect to get in for free like you used to, think again.
The Hanks family got a surprise Sunday morning when they went to the Museum and were told to pay full admission. Jackie Hanks along with her husband and two boys came from Texas and wanted to make a quick touristy stop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art only to find out they had to pay $32.
The Museum announced last month that they would change their admission prices at the beginning of July due to the tough economy. It increased its tickets by $2 and kept the policy of children under 12, free admission. And the policy “pay-what-you-wish” on Sundays will now be offered only the first Sunday of every month instead of every Sunday.
“This was a difficult, but necessary, step to take but the support that general admission fees provides is critical to sustaining the Museum’s mission, presenting acclaimed exhibitions, and caring for our world-renowned collections,” the Museum’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, Gail Harrity in a press release.
