Ditch the mainstream movie hangouts and go Indie this weekend. We can't promise popcorn but we can promise the unconventional. Almost 200 films are being screened at the Second Annual Philadelphia Independent Film Festival and they're all at some very unique venues.

The PIFF kicked off Thursday and runs through Sunday with lots of happy hours and parties in between.

"This is a chance for Philadelphia to have a true first-rate market for showing first-run films that are competitive in the marketplace, for making acquisitions, for putting together distribution deals," said the head of Invincible Pictures and host to the Philadelphia Film Market, Thomas Ashley to the Inquirer.

We know, we know, we shouldn’t put the drinking before the films, but we’re going to anyway.

Yelp! is hooking movie-goers up with happy hours. Get to El Camino Real on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. for half-price margaritas and $2 draughts on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.

And on to more important matters -- like the films.

Like we said, there are 194 films in the festival this year and new this time around is the venues where you can see them -- from the new euro-style Piazza at Schmidt's to Yards Brewery, the North Bowl and six more places a nonconformist can love.

Philebrity's plugging "Philly Boy Joe Stankun's documentary, I Love My Bicycle." You can catch the 8 p.m. showing Friday night at Moore College or the 2 p.m. show Sunday at City Fitness.

Don’t miss the big party at Marathon Grill at 10th and Walnut starting at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Bring $20 and you’ll get an open bar and light fare until 11 p.m.

The official Philadelphia Independent Film Festival Wrap Party is on Sunday at Dave and Buster’s. Black Landlord and Swift Technique will be onstage. Admission is $20.
